What is an Autism Diagnostic Assessment?
An Autism Diagnostic Assessment can determine whether your child has ASD. We provide these at our speech therapy clinics in Success and Shenton Park, within Perth WA.
In Perth, Western Australia, the first step is to ensure you have a referral from your paediatrician.
From there, diagnosing ASD involves assessments from three specialists trained in The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS):
At Kid Speak Perth, we provide the Speech Pathology component of this assessment. This is separated into two assessment sessions. First, we complete a structured interview with parents or caregivers. Second, a Speech Pathologist will work with your child to complete the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). This is considered the ‘Gold Standard’ ASD assessment tool.
Are you concerned that your child may need an assessment, yet haven’t been to a paediatrician? You can always visit us first.
We can speak to you and informally assess your child to determine whether they may be showing clinical traits of ASD. From there, we can discuss whether pursuing an Autism Diagnostic Assessment would be beneficial.
